  • The DeKalb County School District (DCSD) is pleased to announce that three more schools have received STEM certification from AdvancED.

On May 16, it was revealed that Oak Grove Elementary, Henderson Middle, and McNair Middle have earned STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) certification from AdvancED, an international authority on education accreditation.

Oak Grove Elementary received whole school certification while Henderson Middle and McNair Middle received program certification.

STEM Certification from AdvancED signifies that a school fosters a learning environment that encourages enthusiasm for STEM disciplines. Whether it’s through project-based learning, science experiments, or group coursework, students at STEM-certified schoolsreceive an education that prepares them for technology-driven, in-demand career fields.

Oak Grove, Henderson Middle and McNair Middle join 23 other DCSD STEM-certified programs from the Georgia Department of Education and AdvancED. These schools offer students access to such hands-on projects as robotics, aquaponics, a school garden, downhill racing, as well as facetime with industry professionals.

“Today’s announcement is further proof that DeKalb County School District is keeping step with the pace of the modern world,” said Superintendent/CEO R. Stephen Green. “Obtaining STEM certification is no easy task, and I applaud the dedication, passion, and determination shown by staff in completing such an effort. By increasing access to STEM-based learning, DCSD is showing the world that our students are tomorrow’s tech gurus, CIOs, and cybersecurity experts. We’re providing the 21st-century skills needed to make a difference.”
